ABOUT US
Compassion On Trial is a fundraising initiative to help cover the legal costs for those who challenge outdated laws that have failed to protect the health, freedom and safety of non-human animals...
Many who stand up for animals are arrested, charged, and sent to trial. There is a high cost in providing solid legal representation. We want to help.
A PUBLIC KEPT IN THE DARK
Even today, laws across the globe fall short of acknowledging animals as sentient, often reducing them to mere objects, or property.
As a result, animals suffer untold atrocities in every corner of industry. Almost always behind closed doors, away from the public.
DIRECT ACTION FOR CHANGE
When countless petitions, protests and marches yield little action from governing bodies and law makers, civil disobedience is often the next step in escalating the demand for change.
Civil disobedience, is a non-violent form of challenging unjust laws. But it also subjects those who refute these laws, to potential arrest, charges, trial, and even conviction.
GREETING CARDS FOR DEFENCE!
All profits from funds raised from the greeting cards we sell, go towards legal defence fees on actual, current criminal and civil trials.
A small committee carefully selects a current court case, which adheres to a strict criteria:
-
the act committed must be non-violent
-
the purpose of the act is to raise awareness on, or come to the defence of animals in distress
-
the perpetrators are on trial for challenging laws that have systematically failed to protect the animals
Once a trial is selected we design a custom illustration that uniquely tells the case story. The illustration is then printed on blank greeting cards, to be used for any occasion, or framed as an art piece.
THE STORY OF OUR FEATURED CARD
PigTrial4 "Piglet"
In this illustration, we imagine a Porgreg piglet living a happier outcome than what actually awaits any farmed animal.
She no longer lives in utter filth, closed off from all natural light. Her lungs no longer fill with ammonia when she takes a breath. Her destiny doesn't lie in a cage where she cannot turn around, cannot run, play with friends or lie in the sun.
We imagine a happy, free little piglet!
Here, her innate dignity is on full display with her bright red crown. A dignity, all living beings possess, no matter how we, as humans, choose to see them.
The Fleur de Lis is the floral emblem for Quebec, where #PigTrial4 took place. The illustration depicts twelve interconnecting fleurs de lis "dancing" close to the crowned piglet.
They are the twelve defendants sent to trial, who will always sing her story.
